The American Work Truck
A notable subject for the artist is the American work truck painted in bold & bright colors. Similar to the Flag paintings, they do not depict scenes from daily life, a moment captured on canvas; they convey an idea. They represent another iconic image of traditional life, utilized to create an obj ect -- the painting -- that has it's own importance.
A specific truck, often part of a truck, dominates the field. It is not the setting that is important, but the truck itself. In these paintings the artist concentrates on form and color to capture the idea. The colors are vibrant. The brushwork is quick, confident, energetic. All of this results in paintings that portray the trucks as personalities. They become almost human. They encourage us to appreciate the dents and dings that make us who we are. They are a delight.
Individually the truck paintings hold their own. Each one is complete. Viewed together they create a community. All the individual personalities, colors, brush strokes and forms come together to make a completely new whole.
