Sports, The Great American Past Time
For more than 8 decades the name Mara has been synonymous with New York Giants football. As part of this family, Lynn uses her artistic gifts to preserve the memories and record the history of the NFL tradition. The Sports Room in the artist's home, chock full of memorabilia, is a Giants fan's dream. For Lynn, it is grist for the creative mill.
Most of the paintings are portraits of individual players, often caught at a defining moment. One of the highlights in Giants history is recorded in "62 Y Sail Union," the moment when David Tyree makes the now famous catch that, moments later, lead to the ultimate victory in Super Bowl XLII.
In "National Anthem" the artist observes Grey Ruegamer, focused, brimming with emotion and full of anticipation, as he realizes the significance of the moment. In 60 "football minutes" only one team can be victorious. The colors in this painting are electric, portraying the intensity the player is feeling. Jordan Sparks is singing the Anthem. Our heart is in our throat too, as we await ... the kickoff!
"This is the stuff of legends." In her paintings, Lynn pays homage to some of the greatest personalities in sports history. There is a vibrant, expressive and yet sensitive portrait of her father-in-law, Wellington Mara, the beloved patron of the organization purchased by his father in 1925. A tall painting of Michael Strahan hangs in her Gallery. His helmet cocked up on his head illustrates his exhaustion and the fact that he spent everything he had on the field this day for the Win!
This is a subject near and dear to the artist's heart. The paintings are not just portraits of football players. As with all of her paintings, Lynn uses all the skills at her artistic command to capture the essence, the spirit, and the emotion of the men and the team. This is her passion.
